Modat Privacy Policy
Effective November 7, 2026 · Website (modat.kr), Android and iOS
Mody operates Modat to help you choose destinations, save trips and use attendance and ad rewards, and to run the public website and its ads. Guest trips can be saved on your device without an account.
Information we process
- Sign-in: We verify signed responses and account identifiers from the sign-in provider. iOS uses Apple; other supported environments use Google or Toss. The server uses a transformed identifier rather than the original identifier. Provider names, email addresses and profile details are not saved as account data. We do not collect provider passwords. Apple authorization tokens are not persisted or logged. Deleting an iOS account requires fresh Apple authentication and revocation of its connection to Modat.
- Your profile: We store the nickname, introduction and profile icon you choose to save. Nickname availability checks return availability without exposing other accounts. Profiles are stored on the server for signed-in accounts and on the device for guests.
- Trips and rewards: We store saved trip names, selected places, visit marks, personal trip reviews, record times, ticket balances and usage or reward history for your account. Reviews are private to the account and are not automatically added to shared trips or exports. You may copy them to another service. Deleting a trip or account also deletes its server reviews. Guest records remain in device storage and are not automatically merged with an account.
- Sharing: When you share, the chosen places and any profile details you choose to include become available through the link, text or file. Anyone with the link can view its contents. We cannot recall copies already sent to another service or person.
- Language and country: The first launch uses your device language and region to choose defaults, without GPS. You can change these choices; preferences are stored on your device.
- Optional location: Opening Random near me, the food or café screen, or choosing to use your location, requests a one-time location with device permission. We do not continuously track location in the background. You can select an area manually. Current location and map center are used in screen memory, not saved into trip records or URLs. Nearby place data (Korean food data and, abroad, regional files covering 1 degree of latitude and longitude, roughly 100 km across, or about 10 km areas in the busiest cities) is requested from the Modat web server by area; your exact position is not sent, but the server can infer an approximate area from your IP address and the requested file. Places you decide on in Random near me (name, coordinates, type) are kept only in Recent picks on this device. Location-based catalog files and map requests may let their providers infer the area being viewed from your IP address and requested area. Public place coordinates are separate from your device location.
- Ads and rewards: Google AdMob may process consent status, IP address and inferred general area, device or advertising identifiers, advertising interactions, and crash, performance and diagnostic information under its policies. We check consent status before requesting ads and present required consent forms. On iOS, Apple’s App Tracking Transparency prompt is shown before ads load; only if you allow it may the device advertising identifier (IDFA) be used for personalized ads and ad measurement. Everything works the same if you decline, and you can change it any time in iOS Settings › Privacy & Security › Tracking. Modat uses a random reward request identifier and completion confirmation; it does not send your Apple or Google account identifier or email as reward custom data.
- Website ads (Google AdSense): Guide pages and some result screens on the website (modat.kr) may show Google AdSense ads. Google and its advertising partners may use cookies or similar technologies to process browser or device identifiers, IP address and inferred general area, the page address, and ad impressions and clicks under Google’s policies. This is used to serve and measure ads and prevent invalid clicks and, where personalized ads are allowed, to show ads based on interests. Modat does not put trip records, drawn places, your location or account details into ad requests, and does not show ads on screens opened from a shared trip link. Visitors in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through a Google-certified consent management platform. These web ads are not included in the Toss mini app or the Android and iOS apps.
- Cookies and browser storage: The Modat website does not set its own cookies for sign-in or advertising. Guest trips, ticket balances and settings are kept in browser storage (IndexedDB and localStorage) and are removed when you clear site data. Google may set or read cookies on pages that show ads.
- Service requests: Hosting and map providers may process IP addresses, requested resources or map areas, and error information for service operation, reliability and security.
- Support and place suggestions: Information you email, such as a place name, address, description, link and reply email, is used to review submissions and respond. Only approved place details are published; your reply email is not published on the map.
- Inside Toss: Toss handles its login, ads and sharing under its policies. Modat records feature events such as draws, decisions, saves and sharing through Toss analytics without place names, coordinates or account details in the events. Creating a Toss share link sends the selected place names, coordinates, title and any profile you choose to include to Toss. Provider tokens and profiles are not retained.
Providers and international processing
We use Apple, Google (including AdMob and, on the website, AdSense), Toss, Supabase, Vercel, OpenFreeMap, OpenMapTiles, OpenStreetMap and public place sources, including open place data from the Overture Maps Foundation for nearby places outside Korea (served from the Modat web server). Information may be processed in countries where providers operate. Opening an external map or sharing sends information to that service when you choose the action.
Provider policies: Apple · Google · How Google uses information for ads · Toss · Supabase · Vercel · OpenFreeMap.
Retention and deletion
Account trips and ticket records are kept while you use the service. Completing account deletion after reauthentication deletes the associated service records. Operational or security logs and provider backups may remain under their retention policies. For a support deletion request, we verify ownership and explain any remaining data, reason and retention period; we do not describe unspecified retained records as already deleted.
Uninstalling the app does not delete your server account. Guest data, downloads and copies shared externally must be removed from the relevant device or service. Deleting Modat data does not delete your Apple, Google or Toss account, or accounts for other Mody services.
Your choices and requests
Use account and data deletion or email us for access, correction, deletion or withdrawal of a suggestion. Do not send passwords, verification codes or identity documents. Location permission can be withdrawn in device settings. In the Android or iOS profile screen, ad privacy settings show the consent options available in your region.
On the website, you can turn off personalized ads in Google My Ad Center and block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Modat’s core features keep working without cookies.
Children and changes
Modat is not designed primarily for children. Contact us if you believe a child's information was processed unintentionally. Changes to processing or this policy will be published here with an effective date and explanation.
